Robyn’s Review of Cody by Jessie Cooke

by Jessie Cooke
Genres: MC Romance
Title: Cody
Series: Southside Skulls Motorcycle Club
Author: Jessie Cooke
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: June 16, 2017

This second book in the series has a lot going on! There is always some dramatic action or hot passion!

Cody Miller is finally being released from prison. Dax picks him up and takes him back to the MC clubhouse on the ranch. He hasn’t seen his girl, Macy, nor his best friend, Jimmy since he was imprisoned. Then along comes a childhood friend, Hannah or Harley, as he calls her. Things definitely become very interesting!

The story is very easy to read and fast-paced. It is mainly from Cody’s point of view but he does try to look at things from both sides. Even though there was quite a bit of action and drama it wasn’t as exciting as book 1.

Cody is a likeable character who definitely starts to grow up throughout the story and tries not to be so impulsive. It’s great meeting new characters as well as old ones especially Dax, who is such a strong and intelligent president.

I can recommend this book as a fun, entertaining read.

Books Laid Bare – “There were so many twists and turns in the story that I found the anticipation almost too much at times, but what I would suggest is that you make yourself comfy and dig in because as far as MC stories go this was pretty enjoyable and the characters certainly had plenty to say for themselves.”

Wendy’s Book Blog – “This is a fast paced, action packed storyline, with drama, secrets, and passion.”

Cody Miller has just been released from serving 8 years in prison for avenging the death of his brother.

His only family are those at the Southside Skulls Outlaw Biker Club, where the girl he loves lives, but he hasn’t heard from her since his incarceration and no one is telling him what he wants to hear… that she still loves him.

Macy Linden awaits anxiously for Cody’s return, and how he will react when he learns of her life now.

No longer the boy she last saw, Cody is now six foot two and two hundred and thirty pounds of solid muscle, driven by the need to complete some unfinished business.

Macy has something else she has been hiding. A big secret that will threaten to drive them apart.

Can they still find the love they once had after all their secrets are revealed?

This is the second book in the Southside Skulls MC Series.
This is a Standalone Romance Novel but is intended to be read after book one – DAX – where characters in that novel are main players in this story too. HEA and No cliffhangers.
Intended for Mature Readers.

Jessie Cooke is a new author to me but I’m already looking forward to devouring the next book in this MC series.

This author really knows how to write sexy bedroom, bench & bike scenes that can heat you up! As well there is an exciting action packed drama that at times has you sitting on the edge of your seat!

Angel Brady is a young policewoman who would like to be a detective. She is asked to go undercover to infiltrate the Southside Skulls MC and agrees to be a part of this task force. DAX is the president of this club and the two hit it off immediately.

The story is written from both leading character’s point of view. It is a fast-paced, easy to read story right up until the end. The story is told in the present but also goes back months to the start of Angel’s involvement with the taskforce.
Clear descriptions of both inner and outer qualities of the characters make it easy to picture the story in your head.

I thoroughly recommend this book.

I did what I had to do to protect my family, my girl and my club.  He claimed to be my brother.  He threatened my sister and kidnapped my girl.  He touched her.  He made me watch.  The beast inside took over and the ice-cold killer emerged protecting all that I held dear.  I enjoyed it maybe a little too much, but I knew, I was one step closer to returning to my family.  Now, the only question that remains: Will they ever forgive me for the things that I have done?

Review

This second book in the Knights of Silence MC is jam packed with lots of happenings, emotions and even scheming!

The story continues for Caden, aka Ice, and Emma. With such a huge cliffhanger at the end of book 1 there is a lot of mayhem and bedlam for the MC. Ice puts his planning skills to the test trying to create a peace pack with the Satan’s MC!

We are gifted with more budding romances that I look forward to reading about in future books. The characters are quite endearing, even the big bad bikers! Well maybe not Skid from the Satan’s MC nor Mark Grayson! 😬The camaraderie between the girls is fun as is the ribbing between the guys.

Another easy to read, feel good story where questions are answered but more arise!
Told in multiple points of view we get to know more about Rebel or his real name Balefire!

Another mini cliffhanger but nothing outrageous!

This MC book is filled with lots of action and drama as well as romance and hot steamy passion. The chemistry between the lead characters, Caden or Ice and Emma, is off the charts!

I really enjoyed the twists and turns in the plot and how the story is so entertaining. It’s a fast-paced, easy to read book that will make you want to read more….yes it a cliffhanger and boy is it a huge cliffy!

At this point, however, I cannot take any more and I need to be in control. I roll her off me and at the same time position myself on top of her. She’s lying on the bed underneath me looking at me with so much hunger in her eyes. I feel so much love for her, I can no longer hold it back. She needs to know. I lean down close to her and whisper in her ear, “I love you.” I kiss her softly on her neck as my cock slides slowly into her sweet pussy. I move as slowly as I can, prolonging this moment. I want to savor every inch as I push into her. We aren’t fucking. This is no longer about getting laid or having to have her. We are doing something that I’ve never done before. We are making love and it feels amazing. She is so fucking tight and her pussy clamps onto my dick like a vice. I feel as if I am going to explode. I have to stop. I draw out of her slowly and then wait before I slide back in. Holy fuck, it just gets better. Carefully, I push into her again, trying desperately to keep control of my movements. I continue this several times and I swear she clenches my dick tighter each time. I’m losing control and I think she is too.

“Tell me. Tell me what I need to hear.”

Without hesitation or questioning what it is that I need to hear, she responds, “I love you.” I move my fingers over her clit. She is soaking wet around my cock and my fingers. I’m about to come, but I need her to ride this out with me.

“Give it to me sweetheart, give me all you got.” With my words she detonates beneath me as I watch her lose herself to me. Seeing her orgasm is my undoing and I take my release with her as we ride out our passion together.

After, she is snuggled up against me tracing the tat on my chest. She loves that dragon for some reason, I’m not sure why.

“You’re not staying, are you?” She asks quietly.

I don’t say anything for a minute and then, “No baby, I can’t”

She stops tracing my tat and is silent for a while. Then she asks, “Why did you come back then?”

Jag
3 stars

I enjoyed this book as a while but wasn’t very impressed with Jag. He was just a total arrogant pig and had no respect at all for Roxy. When they did get it together it felt completely rushed to me and a bit too far fetched.

I would recommend this book as everyone see different things in every story.

Rush
3 stars

This book is much the same as the first book. Manwhore who uses women to cope with his demons. He then falls head over heels quickly for his manager who has been in front of him the whole time. After alot of craziness they sort things out. Which kind of mad me crazy  as I don’t think, I would have been as forgiving as Jules. But everyone of us is different.

Again I would say you have a read and judge this for yourself.

Roxy
4 stars

This book is the book of the series for me and I am so glad that I carried in reading this series and not giving up. This book is real and heartbreakingly brilliant, there are no punches pulled with this book and that’s what I think is great about it. The tension and drama is so real that you just get sucked right in to it.

This series although its a hard slog it completely worth the read.

Turn-ons…
Party girls.
Platinum blondes.
Zero expectations.
I used to think that if you could combine all three into one female, you’d have the perfect woman. The other guys in the Single Dads Club razz me for wearing the crown of the forever bachelor. The one who’ll be in his seventies chasing down young hotties in his wheelchair.
Then why the hell does Ava Pearson—an outdoorsy girl, a brunette, and a woman who screams stability and responsibility—seem to be the only woman on my mind lately?
Especially when I’ve got enough obligations without adding any complications to the mix—my son, my bar…well, that’s about it. But that’s enough for a guy like me.
It’s the cupcakes. It’s gotta be the cupcakes she bakes that keep me coming back for more. After all, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, right? Well, it’s apparently a direct target to his dick, too.
Did I forget to mention that she’s my buddy’s daughter…another member’s daughter?

Ava might say she can handle being friends-with-benefits, but I’m not sure she can. Unfortunately for her I’m too selfish of a prick to care—until I do.

I just loved this book so much and it was my favourite kind of cat and mouse, followed by walking away to try and save yourself. And Piper Rayne knows exactly how to deliver this kind of book.

Let’s start with Ava, new back in town after being away for years baker that has a talent for all baked goods and Dane the sexy bar owner, single dad that spends his life being a manwhore and refusing to settle down with anyone at all. I just knew when I read about Dane in his own story I would fall head over heels for him and that’s exactly what happens. I don’t think anyone would be able to resist his charms.

I really love the banter between the two main characters and all the other as well, just made the book what it is. A great all round read that will leave wanting to read more and more. This book is a huge recommend for me and I can’t wait for the next story in this series.

Review

This book is the second half of Lucas and Ava’s story!

Ava and Lucas have always had a bumpy relationship but nothing nearly as roller ‘coasterish’ as in this story! At times I felt like sharing them! 😂😂 At other times I wanted to console and comfort them. To be invested in the emotions of a story is a good sign of a worthwhile tale told well.

Ava and Lucas are back in North America but not together. Career pathways mean both will have to learn how to work together.

I think a couple of the secondary characters are worth mentioning. Faye, an old flame and friend of Lucas’, isn’t going to give him up without a fight! Now this woman is an extremely annoying interference in both Lucas and Ava’s life, to put it mildly. Lucas’ mother is only briefly mentioned but the evil she represents is huge and I could have cheerfully push her down a tall staircase! Both incredibly described and used so well by the author.

An extremely enjoyable story and very easy to read.

AVA

The meek shall inherit the earth, they say.

Bullshit. Look at me now. What do I have? Nothing.

I thought I wouldn’t get past a second heartbreak. I was wrong. I never should’ve closed myself off in tears when Lucas told me he loved me. I should’ve had faith he wouldn’t betray me.

Regaining his love will mean throwing away my pride, my armor and laying myself completely bare. I have to trust that he won’t crush me at my most vulnerable.

The attempt will leave me bleeding. It might just kill me. But I definitely won’t survive knowing that I didn’t fight for what I wanted: my future.

A future with the only man I ever loved…a man more important than the very air I breathe…

LUCAS

You gotta put yourself out there to get what you want.

My ass.

I bared my heart to Ava. I begged for her trust, her love.

Instead she shattered my soul.

She’s circling me, her pretty eyes vulnerable. She won’t fool me this time. I’ll never give her another shot. I’ll break her before she breaks me…

Note: The last book in Lucas and Ava’s epic love story! No cliffhanger.
Nobody can be you. You’re the only woman who’s made me yearn.”
The quiet intensity of his gaze and voice ripples over me. It soothes the wounds of my soul, and I close my eyes to savor the warm, sweet moment.
“When I saw you for the first time at that restaurant, it was like seeing my fate. My future.”
I grin. “You liked my body. I remember you checking me out.” An understatement; he’d stripped me bare with his eyes.
“Nice bodies and pretty faces are dime a dozen. You were different.” He takes a bite of his lunch and lets the silence stretch for a moment.
“Then why did you act like you didn’t want me back? You never wanted to stay the night or take me to meet your family or friends. If they’d seen me before the accident, maybe things would’ve turned out differently.”
He hesitates.
“You don’t want to talk about it,” I say finally.
His fingers twitch. “It’s not that. I’m trying to figure out how to say it so I can avoid looking like an idiot…” He sighs. “Okay, it was my fault. Even as I wanted you, I was fighting it. I felt like I didn’t deserve that kind of love.”
Then I know. “Your mother.”
“What do you mean?”
I shake my head. “Don’t do that. We promised to be honest with each other, and you’re not. It’s not fair.”
“You’re right, it’s not. I’m sorry. No, I don’t want to talk about her.”
“Okay.” He isn’t willing to open up yet, so I’m not going to push it. After all, we can’t continue to have mutual respect and honesty if we refuse to let the other person be. I’m afraid to push too hard and ruin what we have. “Then can you tell me about the deal between you and your father? What the tabloids said… It’s true, isn’t it?”
He nods, his shoulders relaxing a bit. “Basically. What they didn’t publish is that the whole thing came about because Dad was furious we missed his Wedding Number Six.”
“To some woman who isn’t even half his age.” I saw that part too on the Internet.
“I’d be surprised if she finished high school. She’s so young she could’ve been our sister.”
“He must love her, though.”
Lucas snorts a laugh. “He can’t stand his wives. His ego was hurt that we didn’t show. Blake, Ryder and Elizabeth opted to attend their cousin’s wedding—it was his first marriage, after all—and Elliot and I chose not to go because after a while, you don’t want to be part of your parents’ circus. But Dad wanted to make a point, and he knew he could use the portraits to get to us. There were some complications with Grandpa’s will, and the paintings went to my father, who thinks we’re all bunch of worthless losers, and that our grandfather was too soft on us.”
“That’s awful. He’s your father.”
“A reluctant father. I’m sure he regrets he didn’t ask his wives to get abortions.”
I gasp.
“We were just bargaining chips in the divorces, although it didn’t work out the way he wanted with me and Elliot.”
“Why not?”
“Because our mother didn’t try to win custody. She preferred a fatter alimony.”
My image of Lucas as a child, growing up in abundance with everything a person could want, crumbles. Everything online portrayed an enviable life, and I accepted it all without question. “So what’s so special about the portraits?” I ask. “Everyone seemed to be focused on how much they’re worth, but that’s not it, is it?”
“Their monetary value isn’t even a consideration for us.” He jabs the air with his fork. “I’m not denying they’re each worth millions of bucks, but let’s face it. We don’t need the money. If we get them, none of us will ever sell them. The value—to us—is entirely sentimental. Our grandfather painted them when we turned eighteen, and they show the potential and greatness he saw in us.”
“They must be amazing. I wish I could see the one of you.”
Lucas shifts his weight, then reaches for his beer. “It’s pretty romanticized. Grandpa only saw the best in everyone.”
“I don’t see the best in everyone, but I think you’re incredible.” I finish the last of my fries. My mind is made up. “Let’s get married.”
He stares at me as though I’ve asked him to climb Everest in the nude. “Ava…we can’t.”
“What? Why not?”
“I didn’t go after you to get the painting.”
“I know, and that’s fine. I just think that now—”
“I won’t marry you. Now yet.”
Well, this is unexpected. I cast about for the right argument. “But that means your father’s going to win.”
He shrugs.
“Don’t you want to win?”
“Yes.”
I narrow my eyes. “You aren’t marrying anyone else, Lucas Reed!”
“Absolutely not. I told you already, you’re the only one for me. But I’m not marrying you either, not until the six months is up, because I’m not giving you any cause to doubt my love for you again.”
Now it becomes clear. “Lucas… I won’t.”
But he isn’t listening. “My brothers and sister will just have to get over it. I’ll find a way to make it up to them.”
“But you were going to marry Faye…”
“I didn’t love her, Ava. It’s not the same thing.”
“You’re right, it’s not. This way, you get both the painting and the woman you really do love. So what’s the problem?”
“If anything happens between us because of the damned deal…” He inhales roughly. “I can’t go through…everything…again.”

Review

This is the first story by this author that I have read however it won’t be the last!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fast paced second chance romance. The characters are so easy to relate to and empathise with as you get invested in the story.

Ava and Lucas have a brief relationship two years prior, now Lucas locates Ava and wrangles his way back into his life.

I have to admit there are times when I could have shaken some of the characters to try to wake them up! 😂 However there wouldn’t be much of a story line without the angst.

I look forward to reading part 2.. yes it’s a cliffhanger!

Cleo Hill is a married woman, in love with a man she’s never really known—her husband, whom she hasn’t seen in eleven years.

Paxton “Torch” Hill is a Notorious Devil, a man who’s been wrestling with his personal demons since before he knew the horrors of war.

When a threat against his club means danger could be lurking around his estranged wife’s door, Paxton is determined to protect her. Yet, one look at the woman he left behind, and he knows his plans are about to change.

The past is not an easy thing to forget, especially not for a woman scorned. While Cleo isn’t the innocent catch he once knew, there’s something about that rough and ready man she’s not sure she can deny.

After all—they promised each other forever.

*Recommended for readers 18+ due to Language, Sexual Content, and Violence

This is the first book by this author that I have read or devoured! It won’t be the last by a long shot! This might be the fifth book in the Notorious Devils MC but it can be read as a standalone easily.

Cleo and Paxton marry very young, eighteen and twenty respectively, then quickly after marrying Paxton, who is in the airforce, is deployed overseas. Eight months later he is home but in body only! He leaves Cleo and they don’t meet up again for eleven years!

Fabulous character descriptions really get you, the reader, into the heads of the characters more and more as the story goes on. Hayley Faiman certainly takes you through a gambit of emotions but the ride definitely worth it. Lisandro, although a secondary character, is worthy of a special mention. He is absolutely gorgeous and his loyalty and love for Cleo really shines bright and clear.

Plenty of mayhem and action as well as sizzling hot bedroom scenes. This book has it all including a novella at the end which is also a great little story.

I really enjoyed this book and I thought that maybe I would be missing something as I hadn’t read Sordid but although part of the series this is a complete standalone. I lost nothing from the story at all, so to read the other book isn’t necessary at all.

The two main character are very enduring in a strange sort of way as although Vasilije is a tough, ruthless and damn right cold. I found there was alot more to him than that. Oksana is a very ballsy women that stood up for herself and what she believes and and in that respect is an mystery to Vasilije.

This story was hot and pulled no punches but you have to read this book to see how it plays out. It’s a case of will or won’t she submit. Can she submit. You have to read this great steamy read to find out. A big recommend from me.

Wow! What a great read so dark… absolutely loved it!! The two main characters were calculating, cunning and a little bit ruthless in their pursuit of justice! In amongst all the chaos, a love story developed.. the chemistry was so hot they both got off on pain and suffering. Highly recommend this story for anyone who enjoys dark dangerous reads with a great cast of characters to sink your teeth into.

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills and international bestselling author Tia Louise…

The first rule of office romance is don’t do it—especially if your dream is to hold the anchor spot on the nightly news and your boss is trying to get you fired.

But one look at Cade Hill, the sexy new sports director, and uptight reporter Rebecca Fieldstone is daydreaming about other things.

Sex in his office…

Sex in the on-set kitchen…

Sex in the supply closet…

She can’t stop thinking about the former NFL quarterback and how perfect he’d look between her sheets—except he’s an arrogant jerk with a huge…ego.

He’s the last guy she’d ever have a one-night stand with.

Cade Hill draws a thick professional line on office romance—until it comes to the hyper-focused Rebecca. He wants her, and he gets his wish when a chance encounter has them having the hottest sex of their lives.

It’s just a hook-up, she says.

When can we do it again? he says.

With Rebecca determined to keep Cade in the friend zone, it’s going to be an uphill battle for Cade to convince her he’s the last guy she’ll ever want.

Review

When I first picked up this book I thought I was gonna get the norm from one of these kinds of books but I was mistaken. It was although the same, it was completely different as well. It had a vibe and flow about it and I have to say, I laughed loads and loads and yep I cried heaps too.

The characters were brilliant Rebecca aka Stone was a fantastic, sassy lead that had a sharp witty tongue. Rebecca although beautiful, wasn’t perfect she had her issues with weight but she rocked it. Cade was brilliant as well, he was a hot as hell ex football player (American) that became a sports presenter due to injury. He has wit and charm by the bucket load and his sites set firmly on the quirky reporter that is Stone. The supporting cast especially Chassy and Trent were brilliant.

I just love books like this, the cat and mouse and the whole, is he attracted to me or is he is real dog or just misunderstood. We if you have the same loves you will definitely enjoy this great read. It’s a huge recommend from two really great authors.

Robyn’s Review of Damaged Goods by L. Wilder

Author: L. Wilder
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Nitro-
With one look, she became my obsession.
There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to have her, even if that meant risking everything I’d worked so hard to build. I put it all on the line and did what had to be done – for her.
I’m determined to have her in every way. But it’s not that easy. Like me, she’s damaged through and through, scarred by a past that haunts her very existence. She resists me, rebelling at every turn, but I can’t let her go. She doesn’t realize she holds the key to my salvation. She’s the only one who can calm the beast that rages within me.
Tristen-
Nathan James is every girl’s fantasy—rich, powerful, and devilishly handsome. I should be happy that he came to my rescue, saving me from my worst nightmare, but I’ve just exchanged one hell for another. He was the highest bidder, and now he thinks he owns me. He gave me my freedom. He gave me a second chance that I thought was stolen from me. He’s given me everything, except the one thing I truly want—his heart.
Will their love heal the wounds of their past, or will they both remain damaged goods?

From the very first paragraph, this story grabbed me. L Wilder is a fantastic author who really knows how to weave words to create a thoroughly entertaining tale!

Intensely graphic descriptions of different scenes and characters make you, the reader, feel like you are there in the story! The characters are so easy to identify with and you find you want to get to know them more and more.

Nitro, aka Nathan, is in a dark and lonely place when he is tasked to buy back a girl, Tristen, from the Satan’s Fury MC, who was kidnapped! A new chapter opens up for both of these lead characters. It is one interesting roller coaster ride!

This is an easy to read book due to its fast pace and how invested you get in the story! I especially liked the epilogue and how it balances the emotive qualities of the prologue.

Bring on Max in the next book…I’m really wanting to know his story!

Leslie Wilder grew up in a small town in West Tennessee. A country girl at heart, she’s always thought that life is too short, but she had no idea how short it really was until her brother passed away in 2014. She’s always been an avid reader, loving the escape only a great book can give, and wondered if she had what it took to write one of the wild romances she’d come to adore. With the support of her family and friends, she published Inferno: A Devil Chaser’s MC, one year after her brother’s death. With him in mind, she fulfilled her lifetime dream of writing. Since then, she’s completed the Devil Chaser’s Series and continued on with the Satan’s Fury MC Series. She has so many stories in her head, and can’t wait to share each and every one.
Leslie has been blown away by the support of her readers, appreciating every message, review, and encouraging word she’s received over the past year. She looks forward to continuing this journey with them for years to come.
