Review
I absolutely adored this story, it evoked all kinds of emotions in me. I smiled loads and at one point I broke down.  No this wasn’t a dramatic book but it was a life-changing story that saw a woman learn and grow. After being shown she is special, important and can be and do anything she wants.

Carlene/Oz was a widowed 40 year old whom is encourages to go on a trip of a lifetime with a companion, a paid escort to be exact and when Rome enters the picture. She is swept off her feet. In more ways than one. This book is about fate, things happen to make these two meet and its a colliding of souls. I fell in love with Rome and I fell in love with the fairytale.

This book isn’t plain sailing. Nothing happens easily but its a beautiful amazing love story. That will sweep you off of your feet. A huge recommend from me.

I was so excited to hear that Natalie Gayle was releasing a new book, let me tell you it was worth the wait! (I also need to state categorically that Rome is mine! 😉)

Carlene, or Oz as Rome calls her, is fulfilling a lifelong dream to go overseas. She flies into LA ready to meet her tour guide for the two week vacation. Rome is astounded by Charlene’s naturally honest approach to life when he meets up with her and is taken by her pleasant character and easy going manner.

Terrific descriptions of the characters, settings and events that take place in the book make it easy for readers to visualise the story with clarity. It’s also very easy to feel the closeness between the lead characters and as their friendship builds it seems to become more and more tangible. This is due to the clever writing technique and thoroughness of this author. Told from both Carlene and Rome’s perspective we garner a deeper insight to their characters and what makes them tick. Just like how Carlene described the Japanese Gardens in San Francisco ..’The balance is exactly right and the energy just flows.’ So is the relationship that builds between these two interesting and completely opposite characters.

It’s refreshing to read a mature romance but one that is also so ‘real life’. It really is the story of Carlene discovering what she likes and wants in life, experiencing and exploring new things. There is a healthy dose of sexual intimacy but this, in and of itself, is a journey of discovery.

A fabulous story and I’m already eager to read the next book in the series!

Robyn’s Review of Cartel Queen by Chelsea Camaron

by Chelsea Camaron
Genres: Romantic Suspense
Title: Cartel Queen
Series: Almanza Duet #2
Author: Chelsea Camaron
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: April 19, 2018

Hardened.
Persistent.
I refuse to break at the hands of a man.
I am Mari Belle Dominguez.
Strong woman.
My situation made me his.
He’ll never really have me.
I’ll never let him hurt me again.
That is … until he claims more than my house, my body, and my life.
When Javier Almanza claims my heart, I’m no longer his cartel bitch.
No, I am the queen.
I thought she wasn’t ready for my world. I thought she needed my protection. I am Javier Almanza, kingpin with a woman who didn’t need a single thing from me, but my love.
The hardest fought wars are the biggest lessons learned. She was my lesson in forgiveness.
*You must read Cartel Bitch before Cartel Queen in order for this book to make sense. Thank you and happy reading. This is book two in the Almanza Crime Family Duet and a full-length romance. This is a dark, edge of your seat romantic suspense featuring an antihero so there is a level of violence inside that may not be suitable for some readers. This is not meant to be an actual depiction of life inside a Cartel but rather a work of fiction meant to entertain.

I eagerly awaited the second book in this duet and it was definitely worth the wait! Once again Chelsea Camaron has woven her magic with words by writing a vividly descriptive ending to this amazing story.

Mari and Javier were once a fairytale couple, once upon a time! Instead, as the author says so clearly, they “…were in this cyclone of hatred both of us broken, both of us beaten, and both of us defeated.”

Tears rolled down my cheeks at times, from the deep despair I felt. A pain that, although created by words, was so real. This was how emotive the language and scenes were and a very good indication of how the writing is so absorbing and brilliantly crafted.

Raw sexual passion that was hot, hot, hot! The chemistry between Javi and Mari is still sizzling and demanding however it isn’t something that takes over the storyline, it supports it.

There are twists and turns in the plot to change things up and keep readers on their toes, you never know what’s around the corner, which is exciting and entertaining. This fast-paced story is very easy to read, yes there is violence, darkness, the effects of drugs but it is all smoothly blended into the storyline. My only concern is that it is quite short so that’s why I gave it 4 1/2 stars and the only reason.

She loves to write blue-collar men who have real problems with a fictional twist. Jonathon Turner is going to be the death of me.

Maybe not the death of me…but my panties for sure! They seem to disintegrate the moment he touches me. Looks at me. Smiles at me. Talks to me.

It’s more than physical. He’s breaking through an impenetrable wall.

There’s a problem though—he’s younger than me.

Six. Years. Younger.

Let’s not forget he’s also one of my brother’s best friends.

Oh, the other problem I forgot to mention…

I never wanted to fall in love again.

But you know what they say….never say never.

I didn’t hear a word that the interior designer was saying. I was focused on the way Jonathon looked in those Wranglers. And his boots. And the freaking black cowboy hat that made his grey eyes stand out. I swallowed hard.

Jesus…could this guy get any hotter?

Jonathon caught my stare from across the room. When he smiled my panties nearly disintegrated. The man had never even touched me, and yet one look from him and I was damn near panting.

Yes, he could get hotter. Christ Almighty.

Before I could stop myself, my tongue ran over my dry lips. Jonathon’s brows rose and his boyishly handsome smile turned into a sexy-as-hell grin. When his eyes smoldered, my breath hitched.

I wiped my brow. Shit, is it hot in here?

Jonathon knew where my dirty little mind had taken me, and I was pretty damn sure his was going in the same direction. I closed my eyes and tried not to picture anything sexy, but failed. Me…up against the wall with him buried deep inside me, giving me a long overdue orgasm.

“Waylynn? Waylynn?” Ann’s voice pulled me from my naughty thoughts.

Popping my eyes open, I cleared my throat. “What? Huh?”

With a sweet smile, Ann repeated the question I had totally tuned out.

“The color scheme. Are you good with it?”

I frowned. What in the heck was she talking about? Color scheme? “Umm.”

The young woman waited patiently, while I stood there with my mouth open like an idiot.

“Color scheme?” I asked with a slight smile.

Ann laughed. “Did you even hear a word I said?”

My eyes darted to Jonathon. He was leaning against a desk in the middle of the room. It was the only piece of furniture that had been left by the previous owners of this space. His arms were now crossed over his massive chest, and he wore a shit-eating grin. Did the man know how freaking handsome he was? That sex appeal dripped off of him?

He winked, and I had to lock my knees to keep from falling.

Bastard.

He knew exactly where my mind had gone, because his was there as well.

Turning back to the interior decorator, I replied, “I’m so sorry. Jonathon was distracting me.”

One quick glance back and Jonathon’s smile vanished, replaced by a shocked expression. “Me?” he asked.

I nodded. “Yes. You.”

Ann was now staring at Jonathon. I could see by the look in her eyes and the way she chewed her lip that she was having similar thoughts. It was obvious by the way she was trying not to look in his direction while she talked. She was probably the same age as he was, and that pissed me off. Then again, I had to remind myself that Jonathon hadn’t been staring at Ann. He’d been staring at me.

“What did I do?” Jonathon asked.

I wanted to say that his hotness was making my panties wet, and the throbbing between my legs was making it hard to think, but I decided it was best to avoid the truth.

“That desk you’re leaning on. I keep wondering why the previous owner left it?”

Jonathon looked down at the desk as Ann asked, “Do you want to keep the desk? It would be beautiful refinished.”

I shrugged. “I’m not sure.”

Jonathon walked around it. “I’m sure we could put this to good use. I can come up with an idea or two.”

His head lifted and his eyes caught mine. I swore they turned as dark as the night sky. I swallowed, trying to ignore the pulse between my legs.

REVIEW

Another great story… Waylynn the older sister in the Parker clan; comes back to town broken and alone after her dreams are shattered finding out her husband was cheating on her. In true Parker style this headstrong, feisty lady 180’s her dream of being a dancer in New York in favour of opening a dance studio and teaching dance to the younger generation of the town she grew up in! Enter Jonathan, the hot as sin contractor who is also her bachelor brother Cord’s best friend… The fireworks between the two are instant and not easily contained which leads to hilarious scenes when all the Parker brothers find out!! This book is not without its drama and boy is it something I never saw coming but it so makes the story! If you’re looking for an outstanding series then I highly recommend this one 4 books so far and so far all 5-star reads!!

Review

This book was brilliant, I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. I frankly found Eric to be a self-absorbed, womanizing arsehole but how wrong could I be. Yes, Eric a great looking man and has a gift of the gab with the ladies but Chaser sees him hit a wall and its in the shape of 2 little ladies.

When Jean walks into Dive Bar you don’t expect her to knock Eric’s socks off but that is exactly what she does. This story is fraught with troubles and people interfering but when trouble strikes in a screaming bundle of joy called Ada. Eric steps up and knocks the world around him on their arses. This was when I truly fell in love with Eric.

This book is in much the same vein as the other books and the supporting casts input is just as important in the way this book goes. There is a hell of a lot of shouting. Interfering and judging in this book and I kind of feel for Eric if I am honest. I am so pleased that Jean stands up for him. The pair of them spend the majority of this book in a state of denial. Which makes for a great read.

I laughed and smiled heaps through this book, Stage Dive Again make a great cameo. This book is fantastic and a huge recommend from me.

I’d been tricked. Betrayed.

After Andre and Jean ate their lunch, we headed outside to deal with her stuff. The cold wind suited my mood to perfection.

Talk about disappointed.

“Don’t lift that, it looks heavy,” I snapped.

Jean blinked. “It’s a pillow.”

“The world’s largest pillow ever. You can’t be too careful.” My gaze roamed over her swollen middle. “You’re . . .”

“Pregnant?” she asked with a voice dripping poison and sugar.

“Are you having trouble with the concept?”

“Absolutely not. I was just going to say huge, that’s all.”

She blew out an exasperated breath. “Thanks, Eric. That makes me feel so much better.”

“I just . . .”

“Don’t bother.” The woman turned back to her sensible, medium-sized SUV and got busy riffling through the contents. I was surprised she’d been able to squeeze into the driver’s seat.

Boxes and stuff took up almost every inch inside the vehicle. Each and every box seemed to have been neatly labeled with the contents.

The woman took her organization seriously. She looked over her shoulder. “You know, I can’t help noticing that Eric-the-smooth-moving-flirt has been suddenly replaced by Eric-the-awkward-jerk.”

“Well, you said you were single.” I folded my arms defensively across my chest.

“I am.”

And then there was an awkward silence.

“Yeah, but . . . I mean, in your condition . . .” I fumbled to a halt.

She turned, face all scrunched up. Like I was the one with the problem.

“Just hop out of the way so I can grab some boxes,” I said, voice gruff.

Still nothing from her. “It’s a second-story walk-up and you have a lot of stuff to get up there. You should be taking it easy.” Hands on hips, I tapped my black leather boot against the sidewalk, waiting her out. “Jean, I’m not trying to insult you. It’s the truth.”

She swore quietly, going back to fussing with the contents in the vehicle. I don’t think any woman has ever given me the silent treatment quite this quickly. Usually I’m good for at least a couple of hours after seeing them naked.

Man, I still couldn’t believe this was happening. God hated me or something. Pregnant women and me were enema. Anathema. Whatever. Now that I’d seen her out in the autumn light, however, she looked younger than I’d first guessed. Despite her tired eyes, her skin was smooth, soft looking. She was likely closer to her early twenties than mid.

“How old are you?” I asked.

“Why do you care?”

I shrugged one shoulder. “Just curious.”

“How old are you?”

“Nearly thirty.”

She sniffed. “I’m twenty-two.”

Young, like I’d thought. She was probably too immature for me, anyway.

“Come on, Jean. Let me get some of the boxes.”

Boyd ambled out of the Dive Bar, turning his head this way and that, looking up and down the street. I raised my hand and he started over in our direction. The big cook would make short work out of moving all this stuff. Behind us, Andre and Nell came out of the tenants’ entrance to the Bird Building. The place was a big brick building about a hundred years old. Just past the door was an entryway with stairs leading up to the second floor, followed by two empty shops, their windows covered in flyers about local events. Concerts and parades and shit. They’d been vacant for a while, unfortunately. Andre’s Guitar Den came next, then Pat’s tattoo parlor Inkaho, and the Dive Bar on the corner.

“Everything’s good to go. Alex and I gave it a cleaning last week just to be sure,” said Nell, smacking a kiss on Jean’s cheek.

“You’ll meet Alex later. She’s probably busy working or something now. She’s sort of a shut-in.”

“You two didn’t have to do that,” said Jean. “Thank you.”

“Anytime.”

Andre leaned against the SUV. “Your furniture got delivered yesterday too, so it’s all good to go.”

“Excellent,” said Jean. “I can’t wait to sleep in a decent bed again. Road trips when you’re seven months’ pregnant kind of suck.”

“I bet.”

“Who’s minding the kitchen?” I asked.

“Lydia will text Boyd if they need something,” said Nell.

“We’re only going to be a few feet away from the place.”

I frowned.

“I own the kitchen, Eric. Not you,” she said. “You’re in charge of the bar, that’s all.”

One of Jean’s eyebrows inched up slightly. So I might have implied that I was the sole owner. Shit happened.

I crossed my arms. “Fine. No need to bite my head off.”

“My best online friend just moved to town. We’ve been texting and skyping for months. She’s been an absolute rock for me through all the nerves of being pregnant again,” said Nell. “Stop messing with my happy.”

And then there was an awkward silence. Great. If only there was some way to get out of helping without looking like a raging asshole. The possibility of anything happening between me and Jean had been buried six feet deep, never to be spoken of again.

Review

Chantel Fernando is an author I have been wanting to read for quite a while, her books I will definitely be exploring further.

Take one charming lawyer who is extremely sexy, add a sassy, strong woman who runs and owns a pub and is going through a messy divorce then throw in a big dose of douchebag..her ex-husband and you have a recipe for one very entertaining story.

The character and scene descriptions are so clearly written it is very easy to visualise the story as you go on, it’s a fast-paced, easy to read one too. Yes..there is an emotional roller coaster but one worth riding! Many, many humorous scenes but also some heartbreaking ones and scenes that literally make you want to slap a particular character, mainly the ex-husband!

This story has a bit of everything really; sweet romance, ‘good and bad’ characters, humour, a touch of suspense and mystery, vengeance and second chances.

I totally recommend this story to everyone.

Robyn’s Review of Surface by Anna Brooks

by Anna Brooks
Genres: Romantic Suspense
Title: Surface
Series: Guarding Her #1
Author: Anna Brooks
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Release Date: April 11, 2018

She was off limits. Too young. The boss’s daughter. Forbidden.

I knew it all along, but it didn’t change the absolute possession I felt when it came to her… nothing would change how I felt about her.

So I did what I had to; I waited until the time was right to make her mine, only to find out there is one thing that could ruin it all.

Anna Brooks is a new author to me and one I immediately liked, her writing style is easy and smooth flowing.

Paisley and Royce meet when she is about fourteen and she immediately crushes on him. With her father owning and running a large security company and Royce as his employee, Paisley fears she will never have her fantasy of a romance between them come true, especially as she is about seven years his junior.

There are great characters in this story, starting with Paisley and Royce who are both strong and honest people. I particularly enjoyed their honesty during their ‘talks’! Erik and Polly are protective and kind, the type of people who treat their employees more like family. A few interesting characters show possible future stories which is exciting. Brinley is a character that peaks your interest straight away and continues to hold it.

The book deals with quite a few sensitive issues like physical and mental abuse, guilt and death, all intricately woven into the storyline without the need for graphic details. The visuals are still loud and clear though.

Basically, this is a sweet love story but be warned there are a few curve balls thrown into the mix.

Reviewed by Robyn
Anna began writing when she thought the world would want to hear her sick lyrics through song. Since then, she’s realized her childhood dream wasn’t so far-fetched, just misguided. Now she writes romance with real emotions and happy endings. If Anna isn’t writing or reading, she can be found by a space heater painting her nails and drinking a ridiculous amount of Diet Dr Pepper. She also likes to hang out with her husband and two boys. If it wasn’t for them, she wouldn’t ever leave the house. Anna was born in Wisconsin but now lives in the Evergreen State.

REVIEW

Sage Poirier and Jolie Louis become neighbours at age ten and fast friends after she showed hm he could trust her. Sage is a spunky quarterback on the college team, already having professional scouts take him seriously. Nearing the end of their college years their friendship changes course with some very bumpy patches.

Great descriptions, including some humorous episodes like this….
“…if I hadn’t known him since age ten, I would probably find him as sexually attractive as a gassy rat.” Jolie thinking about Sage.
…make it easy to transport yourself into the story, seeing things very clearly.

A thoroughly entertaining short story that is fast paced and super easy to read. I especially liked the extended epilogue, so funny..and hot!

A great short story by the extremely talented LJ Shen… Sage and Jolie are soul mates from the age of 10 when Sage moves next door to Jolie and she ends up handing him her friendship and also her heart. The two are inseparable all the way through school and end up roommates in College when Sage’s teammate makes his intentions towards Jolie known… Sage has to come up with a way to keep “his” Jolie away from a man who could be the “one”. The chemistry between Sage and Jolie is off the charts HOT… I really enjoyed this quick, sports romance more than I thought as I’m not usually a fan of this genre but Miss Shen really draws you into this incredible story!

About L.J. Shen:

L.J. Shen is an International #1 best-selling author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She lives in Northern California with her husband, young son and chubby cat.

Before she’d settled down, L.J. (who thinks referring to herself in the third person is really silly, by the way) traveled the world, and collected friends from all across the globe. Friends who’d be happy to report that she is a rubbish companion, always forgets people’s birthdays and never sends Christmas cards.

She enjoys the simple things in life, like spending time with her family and friends, reading, HBO, Netflix and internet-stalking Stephen James. She reads between three to five books a week and firmly believes Crocs shoes and mullets should be outlawed.

Finding my teammate in bed with my wife made the decision I had been fighting with for years easier.

It’s time to move on.

A fresh start and a new NHL team in a big city. Most importantly, it’s my son Jack’s best shot.

It would be both of our best shots.

Denise

After a bad childhood, I made sure I would succeed, so I lived for my job.

The problem is I die a little with each patient I lose. It’s part of my career at Hudson Children’s Oncology Hospital, but it doesn’t make the sting of loss any easier.

Seeking anything other than a life saved isn’t on my agenda until a NHL player walks into my hospital with his son.

We’re officially off script the moment we meet.

If this love is anything, it’s unscripted.

Wow! This book just about broke me. It was in the same quirky vein as the others and had some great laugh out loud moments but the main subject matter just tore at my heart. It was handled by with beauty and grace. With a sensitivity that was so touching. Cancer isn’t an easy subject to tackle but when it a child it’s worse. A few tears were had whilst reading this story.

Zack and Denise were just made for each other and there isn’t any other way to put it. It was fate and in Dr Denise, Jumping Jake found what he was missing and never had. It was insta love for them all. The hockey is there too and plays a huge part. The “family” are a strong a supportive feature that runs throughout. This tough and touching ride was amazing and the supporting cast made it even better. Elle and Jack were my winners and stole the show for me. They stole my heart.

Another fantastic recommend from me. It’s a tough subject but I promise a HEA is there and the ride to it is just brilliant.

“Zack.” I hear her voice and just look at my wife. The woman who said she would love me in good times and in bad yet is currently holding a sheet to cover her naked body. The four-carat engagement with matching eternity wedding ring glistens in the light. “It’s just …” she starts to say, and I look over at the man in bed next to her. In our bed.

“It’s over.” I say the two words I swore I wouldn’t say no matter how hard it got. No matter how much I saw her push me away, no matter that I always suspected she was cheating on me. Then I look over at the man who I called a brother, the man who stood by my side on and off the ice. “You’re scum.”

“It just happened,” Colton says, getting out of the bed. At least he’s wearing boxers. His knee is still wrapped from the operation he had last month, which is why he wasn’t on the road with us, which is how I surprised them.

We were on the road for the whole week and due back tomorrow, but I hightailed it out of there to get home to my family and my son. “It just so happened you walked into my house and slept with my wife?” I ask him, and I have to wonder why I’m not more pissed, why I’m not more angry with them. “You come here and sleep with my wife with my son under the same roof.”

“Zack,” my wife says, and I look over at her again. Tears are rolling down her cheeks, her perfectly made up face now streaked with the black mascara she always wears. “Please let’s …”

I shake my head, putting my hands in my pockets. “Let’s what? Let’s talk about this?” I throw my head back and laugh. “Let’s talk about the fact that our son is in his room dying. Let’s talk about the fact that instead of helping him, you’re just helping yourself. Let’s talk about the fucking fact that instead of being there by his side with me, you chose to escape the fucking reality that our son won’t make it to six years old.”

“No.” She shakes her head, and I know that I’ve about had it.

“I’ll give you an hour,” I tell them both. “One hour and I want you packed and at the door when I come back.”

“But—” she says.

“But nothing, Chantal. You did what you had to do for you, and now I’m doing what I need to do for our son.”

I turn and walk out of our bedroom, then down the winding staircase that leads to the big brass front doors. Once outside in the warm Arizona air, I take my phone out of my pocket and call the only person I know who has my back no matter what. My agent and best friend, Jamie.

He answers after one ring, and it doesn’t surprise me he sleeps with his phone in his hand. “What’s up?” he says, his voice sleepy since it’s four a.m. in New York.

“I want out of Arizona, make the trade. Call the powers that be; I want out,” I tell him, getting into my Range Rover.

“You can’t just demand that,” he says, and I hear sheets rustle.

“Just walked in on Colton fucking my wife, so you can bet your ass I can. Make it happen. Call New York because it’s the only place I’ll go. I don’t care if I take a pay cut.”

“That fucking scumbag,” he says. “I’ll call them now.”

“Jamie, there is a top-notch doctor who specializes in cancer in New York. Max Horton’s sister,” I tell him quietly and slowly drive out of my gate.

“I’ll make it happen,” he says softly. “I’ll let you know what they say.”

“Jamie, I’m leaving here in a week regardless of what they say,” I tell him and disconnect the call.

“One week,” I say to myself. “One fucking week.”

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
