Donna’s Review of Whole Lotta Frogs by Samatha Harris

by Samatha Harris

My name is Lennox Brooks and I’ll admit, I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I don’t take the big risks, I cover my insecurities with snark, I’ve shown my crazy a few more times then I would’ve liked, and I’ve been trying, and failing at love pretty much since I first grew tits.

Weirdos, Mama’s boys, the over-coiffed, and underwhelming, I’ve been out with them all, just read my blog. I’ve got horror stories that would curl your toes and singe your nose hairs, but none of them compare to the toad who started it all, Ellis Walker.
He was the boy next door, the charming, infuriatingly gorgeous one who broke my heart and disappeared without a trace. Now he’s back and determined to throw my life into chaos, dredging up painful memories just when things were getting good.
But the thing is there are always two sides to every story.
I’ve spent the better part of my life hating him for everything he put me through, but without that resentment clouding my judgment how will I ever resist him?
Love is complicated, appearances are deceiving, and sometimes you have to kiss a whole lotta frogs before finding your prince.

I really enjoyed this book, it managed to make me laugh, exactly when I needed it. The story was very Bridget Jones esk but I loved that about it. I smiled huge most of the way through and my heart was really heavy in the other parts. Sometimes, people have to hurt you, not intentionally but for a reason that they can’t always share and make you understand. That’s exactly what I got from this.

Lennox and Ellis have a history and one that isn’t fun for either of them. This book is about, that story and how that past shaped them and their friendship as adults. I really can’t say any more than that. Just know, it’s a great read and you really won’t ever be disappointed. This isn’t a doom and gloom book. It’s a book that deals with real issues that many of us have experienced.

I really liked and recommend this book.

I stepped into an enormous bowl made of trampolines. Bright neon-green padding ran in a grid-like pattern across the entire arena, separating each trampoline into its own little rectangle. The springy black fabric covered every available surface, including the walls.

I stepped down into the closest square, giving it a test bounce, and smiled. It doesn’t matter how old you get. It’s impossible not to smile when bouncing on a trampoline.

We had the entire bowl to ourselves. I could still hear the music and the screaming, but it sounded distant and not nearly as deafening.

Ellis bounced back and forth from square to square, the squeaking of the springs mixed with my own tentative steps.

“Is this part of your plan?” I asked.

Ellis stopped jumping and rested his hands on his hips to catch his breath. “I could’ve gone with the cliché dinner and movie, but I figured you could use a little bit of fun.”

I laughed. “You’re right. I could use some fun. I’ve been a little stressed since this guy from my past came back into my life and won’t leave me alone.”

Ellis shrugged. “Maybe he likes you.”

I laughed and jumped to another square. “He thinks he does.”

“Trust me, Len. He knows.”

“Okay, so what’s next? Or was your grand plan to make me work out against my will.”

Ellis held up one finger and disappeared through the curtain of netting, only to reappear with a bag of bright red balls.

“What is that?”

“I was thinking about what you said about me torturing you when we were younger. I was a punk kid trying to get the attention of the girl he liked, but I get how it may not have felt that way to you.” He dropped the bag at my feet and turned it upside down, emptying six rubber balls at my feet. “This is your chance to get me back.”

Ellis made his way to the other side of the bowl and opened his arms. “Let me have it, Len. All I ask is that you don’t aim for the face.”

“You want me to hit you?”

“If you’re ever going to give us a chance, you need to let go of the past, and if this is what it takes to get you to forgive me then so be it. I’m willing to take the hit.”

I picked up a ball, testing the weight in my hands and eyeing him as he stood, arms wide open, feet spread apart, muscles tense and prepared for impact.

I wanted to hit him. I really did. But I am an adult, and adults don’t solve problems by hurling rubber projectiles.

“I can’t,” I said. “This is childish.”

“You scared?” he asked that trademark smirk of his spread wide across his face.

“I’m not scared. This is stupid.”

“I agree, but continuing to punish me for the mistakes I made as a kid is also pretty stupid.”

Anger welled inside of me and I drew back, hurling the ball as hard as I could toward his chest. The ball hit its target with a loud thud and bounced away.

Victory swelled inside my chest.

“See?” Ellis said. “Feeling a little vindicated, aren’t you?”

“Shut up,” I said, hurling the next ball toward him.

Robyn’s Review of Hot Cop by Stella Stone

It’s Illegal.
The way I watch her.
It’s Immoral.
The way I want to own her.
It’s Improbable.
The way I need to make her mine.
It’s Imminent.

This is my first time reading a Stella Stone story and just like she says, it’s a sexy romp!

Grant is a thirty-six-year-old detective in a small town. He is very good looking, buff and generally oozes sex appeal. Elise is the twenty-year-old daughter of the chief of police and has just returned after being away for five years. Naturally, the chief is concerned about his daughter’s safety and assigns some of his men to keep a watch over her. When it is Grant’s turn things change direction massively.

The two lead characters have a powerful chemistry that is hard for them to deny. Their intimate scenes are almost at the combustible stage they are so hot. Overcoming some issues, especially dear old dad is a huge hurdle.

In reality, this is a light romance with a very sexy twist. Very easy to read as it isn’t very long and fast paced too. I enjoyed the no-nonsense approach to this relationship and would be more than happy to read more by this author as it did engage me from cover to cover.

Baker Daley knows he can “play the part”; he just needs a chance to prove it to Wilkinson. Being a straight man should have no bearing when his Domme has trained him well in the practice and lifestyle of submission. After all, this is just a job, right?
One scene. One intuitive Dom. One sassy sub. The game is afoot…in more ways than one.
As passions ignite and both men grapple with their internal desires, the mission begins to heat up. In a race against time, confusion and danger, they may just discover the greatest threat is to their hearts.

Jayne P. Sayle – “…fast paced and it keeps you hooked from the very first page.”

Jenny Prose – “This is an absolutely amazing love story of 2 men.”

Barbara – “…fun, sassy suspenseful and exciting.”

First, read but this will definitely not be the last… This was a gorgeous love story with a difference, two FBI agents, a DOM and his Sub, one gay and one straight… a recipe for a very intriguing story! The connection between Seth & Baker was undeniable from their very first meeting, they connected on a very personal level and that connection grew into something so much more. Both were on a dangerous mission to seek out and bring down the people responsible for torturing and killing Subs in the Miami BDSM scene… Seth fought hard to keep Baker safe while they both fought the growing feelings they were developing for each other. A great read, one I highly recommend.

Let me start by saying, I love Cat Porters writing and with this book the writing could not have been more faultless. I loved the characters and this story had so much potential but I found the story dragged and was very slow. Now don’t get me wrong there isn’t anything wrong with that but I like a little more get and go with a story and this just didn’t really take off until 70% and then went full steam ahead and the story raced forward and was really enjoyable.

Turo and Adriana were fantastic, the supporting cast was brilliant and there were a few surprises thrown in there too character wise. I would recommend this if you love a slow burn book, it will probably a top read for you but unfortunately this time for me, I just didn’t love it.

Henry Garrison, disgraced lawyer, meets Winnie Hughes, or so he thinks, on the island where he grew up. Cleaning out his childhood home before selling it and moving back to Manhattan to try to resurrect his floundering career, he meets Win when she goes for a job along the beach. Both lead characters have a flawed past and are clawing their way back to a find their self-respect and a better life. They have many things in common as well as a sizzling chemistry.

The bond between Henry and Win share is one that is rattled quite severely. Both show they are fighters and won’t go down without a battle. The suspense and mystery lead readers to query many people and become Sherlock wannabes along the way, questioning every action and thing characters say. The dialogue outlining the case for the defence is not just intriguing but feeds our super sleuthing. 😂

I enjoyed the twists as much as the red herrings and can honestly recommend this book as a fast-paced, easy to read story that entertains just like this author is known to do.

Henry glanced up at the clock. Two thirty p.m. Somehow he’d expected Win to show up bright and early this morning. He’d woken up and made a pot of coffee, and he’d gone over all the ways he would explain to her that this was a bad idea.

Because it was still a bad idea.

Alicia might have given in to Noah and Drew Lawless’s blackmail, but she would be back at some point. Then there was the fact that he dealt with unsavory clients on a daily basis. He took on high-profile cases and often got dragged through the mud along with the client.

There were plenty of people out there who hated him. Loathed him and despised the very fact that he existed and cheered if he failed. He was used to it. Sweet little Win was not and would be horrified.

So he was going to tell her how amazing their night together was and then turn her down gently.

Except she hadn’t shown up and that bugged the hell out of him.

She’d been the one to claim she would be here despite the fact that he’d told her not to come. She’d told him she didn’t care what he thought.

It was perverse, but if he’d had her number, he might have called and said a few things about setting expectations and then not meeting them.

He started another pot of coffee. This was completely foolish. She’d put some distance between the two of them and realized how little they had in common. At least one of them had some sense.

The scent of French roast hit the air and he realized he was pro-crastinating. He was putting off the moment when he had to step back into the city and face the music. He would have to work his ass off to find anyone who wanted to hire a lawyer with his tarnished reputation. It didn’t matter that his addiction issues had never cost a client a dime. The perception would be there, and perception was over half the battle in life.

He should pack up tonight and leave it all to the agent. It’s what he should have done yesterday, but he’d enjoyed spending time with David, showing him places on the island and telling him stories.

It was time to go home now. Time to forget about pretending to be someone he couldn’t afford to be anymore. Time to put away thoughts of quiet and peace and get back to being the Monster of Manhattan. That was the only way he was going to survive.

The Monster of Manhattan didn’t give in to urges. He plowed through all problems with a single-minded, ruthless intent. The Monster didn’t need attention, though he tended to get it. Attention didn’t matter to the Monster. Money mattered. Power mattered.

He would get them both back.

The Monster certainly didn’t need some do-gooder in his bed. He would select a woman, rationally discuss his needs with her, and pay her for her services, whether they be as a plus-one to gatherings or as a body in bed. That was how he would view it. Transactional.

Transactional was safe.

So he was going to stop being such a whiny asshole and be grateful that Win had some sense.

A knock broke through the quiet of the house.

He practically ran for the door.

He opened it and there was Win, standing in the soft light of the afternoon, her hair up in a ponytail. She was wearing denim shorts and a blousy, feminine shirt. She had a bag of groceries in one hand and what looked like a duffel in the other.

“I know you said I shouldn’t come back, but you’re wrong and I’m going to give you all my reasons why.”

He didn’t care. She was here. He walked straight up to her and cupped that pretty face in his hands and kissed her for all he was worth.

Fuck transactional. He wanted something real for once in his damn life.

When he came back up, he was rewarded with a soft look in her eyes, her lips curving into a small smile.

“No arguing with me?”

He did have some problems they should discuss. “You’re late.”

Her smile went brilliant. “I had some things to clear up. I thought if you didn’t mind, I might stay with you for a few nights.”

He took the bag of groceries out of her hand and led her inside. “I think that sounds like a great idea.”

“This is way easier than I thought it would be,” she admitted. “Have you had lunch? I could whip up some sandwiches and we could have a picnic.”

He stashed the grocery bag in the fridge. She set down her duffel, and that made it much easier to scoop her up and into his arms. “I know exactly what I want for lunch.”

Her eyes went wide, but she didn’t struggle at all. Her arms went around his shoulders as he carried her to the big bedroom.

It had been cozy in his old room, but he needed more space if she was going to live here with him for a few weeks.

He stopped at the edge of the big bed he’d had brought in after he’d inherited the place. It was the only room he’d redone, with the thought of spending long weekends with his friends up here. He never had managed the time, but now he was happy he’d spent the cash to do it because he could share it with her.

The last few weeks of being Henry before going back to the real world.

He set her down on the bed and pulled his shirt over his head. He wasn’t playing around this time. That was for later. It had been entirely too long since he’d had her.

He needed her.

He knew it was something he should question, even be slightly afraid of, but he didn’t care in the moment. All that mattered was she was here and he could put off any thoughts of letting her go for a few days. He could sink into her.

She was his reward for every crappy thing he’d been through in the last couple of years.

My first read from Natalie Wrye but it was a really good one!! I haven’t read any of the other books in this series but I don’t think it took anything away from the story… Javi is a lethal FBI agent, he’s a tough as alpha and has his sights set on his high school girlfriend and now FBI witness Delilah. The one woman he wants but knows he can’t have, she’s a feisty recently single Mum/business owner who will make him work for what he wants. This book had so many twists and turns but it was an epic roller coaster ride with an ending in never saw coming!!

I don’t hear the soft scuff of a shoe against the floor until it’s too late.

The touch on my shoulder is soft, a caress almost. It makes me whirl on my feet, and the gasp I release from my lips is nothing but a scream trapped in my throat as I turn to see a set of green eyes glaring in my direction, a mass of dark hair framing a face seemingly chiseled out of stone.

I stumble backwards, my body falling into the closed curtain. Thick fabric and phantom hands entangle my body, holding me and I flail at both, my fists beating against skin and silk. But the hands are too quick for me. Fingers grip my arms and shoulders, spinning me, and before I can say another word, my lips are clasped shut behind a calloused palm, the soft smell of men’s cologne overwhelming my senses.

I whimper, but it’s no use.

I am trapped. And the knowledge makes me claw. My fingernails break into skin, and as I pull at the fingers over my face, a voice, low and rumbling, ruffles the strands of my hair, puffing slowly over my skin.

“Stop. Stop fighting,” the voice exhales. My chest heaves. Trapped front to back between a man’s torso and locked forearm, my mind goes into panic mode. The panic turns into a frenzy when the voice calls out louder, its reminiscent tone striking some small chord within me.

He breathes my name. “Delilah.”

I mumble, fighting for breath. His hand releases my mouth, moving ever so slowly. I lick my dry lips, my tongue searching for the syllables. “Who…” I swallow, my voice gasping. “Who—who are you?”

“What would be better?” he responds, his words a molten flame, “The ugly truth? Or a pretty lie?” He releases me, stepping back. “Knowing you, I’d almost say I have a better chance with the lie. But then again, wasn’t your job once built on exposing them?”

I turn, still in his arms, and take a deep breath. The fingers that hold me drop, and as I blink slowly, the face in front of me comes into focus, the stranger’s strong features coming into light with every agonizing second that passes.

My heart beats double fast, my throat growing dry. I wrap a hand around my neck, still feeling the warmth of his fingers. My body goes numb.

“Is it…?” I look closer, squinting. “It is you. What the hell are you doing here?”

Donna’s Review of Cheat Codes by Emily Goodwin

by Emily Goodwin
Genres: Contemporary Romance
Title: Cheat Codes
A Dawson Family Series Novel
Author: Emily Goodwin
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 31, 2018

Archer has always wanted what he can’t have—Quinn Dawson. Since the
moment he saw her, he’s been denying his feelings for her, ignoring the void in
his heart he knows only she can fill.
Everything about them was wrong, the kind of wrong that felt so right.
But none of it mattered. Not the terrible timing. And definitely not the mess
it would create if Archer made a move on his best friend’s baby sister.
It was supposed to be one night, but one night is all it takes to make
everything more complicated, and they only have nine short months to sort it
all out.
No, none of it mattered. Until it did.

I really enjoyed this friend to lovers book. With more than a few surprises thrown in. The way book ends has left me feeling anxious about the next book but also chomping at the bit to see what unravels and happens. I am always a fan of Emily’s writing and although I haven’t read all her work, her style of writing never fails to leave me entertained and fully satisfied.

Archer and Quinn are brilliant and although this book is only the start of what’s to come I can see it being brilliant. I laughed a little, got teary eyed too and my frustration at some of the situations was off the chart. The supporting cast of characters was brilliant and made a lot of the story fuller.

Although I have been vague with my review because spoilers suck and I refuse to ruin anything. I did absolutely live and devour this book and really can’t wait to read the conclusion. A huge recommend from me.

little bitty shorts ride up her tight ass as she walks. I want to put my hands
on it. Press my cock up against it as I kiss her neck, gathering her hair into
one hand and move it over her shoulder.
I swallow
hard. I can’t think like that. Not here. Not now.
Not ever.
“Are you
done?” Quinn puts one hand on her hip and for a split second I think she knows
what I’m thinking.
“Yeah,” I
say, picking up my last piece of bacon. I pop it in my mouth and stand,
bringing my plate over to the sink. Quinn takes it from me and bends over to
let the dogs lick the remnants of eggs. Her ass is in the air right in front of
me, and I wonder if she’s doing it on purpose to get a rise out of me.
Because she
is, and I have to change my stance thanks to my hardening cock.
“Quinn,” I
start, not sure what to say, but I have to say something. “We should talk.”
what?” She straightens up and rounds on me, crossing her arms. Her eyes meet
mine, drilling in with an intensity I’ve never seen from her. She has little
flecks of blue in her brilliant green irises that I haven’t noticed before.
I move
closer, stepping over Boots. If I say it now, there will be no more wondering.
No more waiting. She’ll either take me or leave me, but at least I’ll know. I
can kiss her now or move on. Somehow, someway.
It’s not
hard. All I have to do is open my mouth and let the words come out, speaking
with unwavering vehemence as I tell her how I feel.
Yet, I

wrist. How’s your wrist?”
“My wrist?”
she questions, nostrils flaring. She lets out a sigh and picks up the plate the
dogs licked clean. “Same as yesterday. I ordered a posture brace on Amazon to
help with my shoulder pain, not that you care.”
I’d offer
to massage her shoulders, but the moment my hands land on her back, all bets
are off.
Quinn advances. She’s inches away, arms crossed tightly over her chest and head
tipped up to mine.
“That’s not
what you wanted to talk about.” She pulls her bottom lip between her teeth and
cocks her head. “Is it?”
“Don’t Quinn

sides. Her fingers brush against me, and my skin feels electric just from that small
“But fine.
I’ll play that game. Here.” She holds up her hand. “Examine me, doctor.”
Her words
are meant to mock, but they do the opposite. I’ll examine every inch of her
body. Twice. Three times. Just to be certain nothing was missed.
I take her
wrist and tug her forward, knocking her off balance so she falls against me,
both her hands flat on my chest. I slip my other hand around her waist,
stopping at the small of her back. Quinn’s lips part and she gasps.
Instead of

this is wrong.
Quinn is in
my arms, back arched and tits against my chest. My cock is hard, pulsing
against the confines of my jeans. Thunder booms above and Quinn shivers.
“Do you
still want to talk?” My voice is gruffer than I intend, but the harshness does
something for Quinn. She slides her hands up my chest and around my shoulders.
“There are
other things I’d rather do,” she says, voice breathy. Fuck. She’s killing me. She
brushes her hips against mine, feeling my erection through my pants. “And I
think you would too.”
I do. I so

she says softly and hearing her whisper my name is almost enough to make me

kiss her. After all this time, it’s finally fucking happening.
